I’ve always been partial to a ‘seven and seven’ when the bar is ‘less than ideal’. Coincidentally, it’s not all that far off of from the Mamie Taylor described above.

You raise a good point, but frankly, I think the drink still tastes good with regular ginger ale. An Americano is always a delight but many bars don’t know how to store vermouth, which can lead to serious disappointment if you wind up with rancid product in the glass. Order with this in mind and you may be pleasantly surprised. Cin-cin!

Hmm, this seems simple enough, but what less-than-ideal bars actually have “spicy” ginger ale, let alone ginger beer? You’re probably going to get some limp drink made from Canada Dry… Not sure this is such a “bulletproof” bet.

What about an Americano?
