I just recieved my first absinthe spoon and I have been comparing absinthe varieties and have heard that Duplais is a respected style in UK. Is this the same elseware. Here in Canada, I find a large number of types I have not heard of and am unable to locate reviews for. It would be great if some of you people who are familiar with Green Fairy would offer their usual brands. I am new to the world of absinthe and was suggested that Kubler is a good blanche to begin with. Recommendations on is also helpful. So I aquired a bottle of Mansinthe to test and ended up very happy with my decision to buy it.

Many of the old time aperitifs were 2:1 fortified wine:spirit, such as the Lusitania we had last night (which was dry vermouth, brandy, absinthe, orange bitters in a 2:1:spoon:dash formula). The reversal of spirit and wine ratios makes them light and great before a meal.

I believe the 2:1 spirit:fortified wine ratio Wondrich presents is the "Basic Cocktail", not aperitif, and he explains it as the best way to deviate from the Manhattan.
