I just want to second that this is a great way to start stocking your bar. It is also a great way to move beyond the basics, into the more esoteric ingredients. I occasionally make the mistake of seeing a new and exotic bottle and buying it right away, only to find that I can't find any use for the stuff. On the other hand, I will often see a recipe I'd really like to try and spend a lot of frustrated time trying to find the critical ingredient. Ultimately, waiting to find that rare bottle is more rewarding and less expensive than using up storage space on bottles for which you have no use!
